Some reports about the outing at Gropparello Castle

Gropparello Castle

On 11th April my class and I went to visit Gropparello Castle with our Latin and English teachers.
This castle is located in Val Vezzeno, near Piacenza. It is an ancient fortress and it sit into a rock. Under it the Vezzeno torrent flow between the nature and the rocks.
This area is part of Natural Park of Gropparello Castle.
This fortress probably was born as a Romanian camp. After that, in the 8th century b.C. became the beautiful fortress that is now.
In the course of the Middle Ages the castle was protagonist of many encounters between Guelphes and Ghibellines.
Many and important families (Fulgosio, Borri, Anguuissola, ect. ) governed the castle.
After a century, in 1900 Gropparello Castle was bought by Count Ludovico Mazzani-Visconti who put in order the restauration of the castle.
Gropparello Castle and his Natural Park are part of the Fairy Park.

The legend

A legend says that in the 3rd century a young woman, called Rosania, was married with Peter the Big and they lived in Gropparello Castle.
A day, Peter the Big left the castle to fight a crusade.
While he was at crusade, Gropparello Castle was attacked by barbarians and Rosania had to ask help to Lancelot Anguissola. She promised him her body in exchange for his help to fight against barbarians. But Lancelot was her juvenile love and so they felt in love. Verzania, a lady of the castle, told their love to Peter the Big when he came back. Betrayed by his wife, Peter the Big walled up Rosania.
Till today Rosania’s spirit hang about the castle and you can hear her laments when there are stormy nights.
Rosania Fulgosio really existed and she was walled up in the famous “damned room”.

It was a beautiful school trip where I could enjoy myself with my friends and learn so much.
I liked visit this castle and dream to live for a few hours in a fairy-tale!
On the afternoon we visit Garazzano Visconti, a typical stronghold of the Middle Ages. There were not many people, only a few shops and characteristic locals. It was wonderful: we were not living in the 21st century, but we were living in the Medieval!

Gropparello Castle

On 11th April I went to visit Gropparello Castle on a school trip with my class, with our english and latin teachers (MrsBaroni and Mrs Blandini): the castle was buit in the VIII century, it is in Gropparello, 27 km from Piacenza ; It is a fantastic example of the medieval art of
Fortification. Near the castle there is also a park, the fairy tales park.
The castle is very big, there are a lot of rooms with fireplaces because in winter it is very cold.
The castle was warmed up by all those fireplaces; the most beautiful room with a fireplace is a sort of living or dining-room.
The dining-romm is a very particular room because its ceiling is covered with gold studs .
In the castle lived the Fulgosi family, the Pallavicino family, the Sforza’s, the Campofregoso’s, the Attendolo’s and the Gibelli family.
There is also a beautiful music-room, with a piano, a harp and a violoncello!
The dining-room is large and in the middle of it there is a table with a yellow and gold tablecloth, some old beautiful objects like decorated plates, vases, etc are displey on the cupboards .
The castle is built on a hill, and it is surrounded by a lot of trees:
